When Namboole management and Fufa administration decided to ask Bobi Wine to shift dates for his Kyarenga Concert, there was an outcry.
They were cursed, insulted and threatened.
The most notable threat was that Ugandans should shun Cranes’ game against Cape Verde on Saturday, November 17.
This game was very critical, three points courtesy of Patrick Nduga’s header taking Cranes back to Africa Cup of Nations due next year in Cameroon.
By Ugandans defying the noise makers and throwing support behind Cranes is laudable. However, Bobi Wine fans are deliberately or unconsciously denting their man’s brand.
The tyranny of Bobi Wine fans is starting to alienate sane people from Bobi brand of politics. This is something to reflect on.
Presidents are both big hearted, big minded. Whereas Bobi has himself denied some of his fans from ‘going radical’, the things they continue to do or say in his name, should make Bobi make clarifications now and now.
How can unserious supporters demand for a boycott of Cranes games! Mind you, Cranes brand is bigger than Museveni, Bobi or Besigye put together. Why then should anyone politicise Cranes! This is a brand that unites all of us. It’s the only thing which makes us dress in black, red or yellow without thinking twice.
If bwana Bobi Wine’s radical fans want to build a new political culture, different from the usual banters, they should consider keeping national interests close to his agenda.
*Editors note: Bobi Wine requested Cranes’ fans to attend the last home game of the 2019 Afcon qualifiers in their numbers.
