Police has on Saturday kicked off the anti-crime and fire awareness campaign in schools around Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The campaign comes as a result of the recent fire outbreak at St Bernard’s Mannya Secondary School in Rakai District where nine students lost their lives.
It aims at making students aware of disasters they may come across and prepare them to deal as well as to discourage the young people from engaging in unlawful acts, but rather play a significant role in reporting and preventing crimes.
The Division Police Commander Kawempe Police Division SP. Denis Odoch engaged about 1100 students of Kawempe Muslim Secondary School in awareness discussions.
The discussions included awareness in fighting against fires, domestic violence in homes, civil disobedience, sexual harassment and use of narcotic drugs.
The students were taught about dangers of fires, how they should protect themselves when caught on fire and getting out of a burning building without being harmed.
