Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has summoned a 30-man Squad ahead of the preparations for the 2019 Afcon Qualifier match between Uganda and Cape Verde. The game will be played on November 17, 2018 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole and an international friendly against Nigeria three days later.
The squad, which consists of 16 foreign-based players and 14 stars from the Uganda Premier League, will start non residential training on November 9 at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
Fufa head of communications Ahmed Hussien also noted that the 16 foreign based players will join the rest of the squad after getting clearance from their parent clubs at the right time as per the FIFA international break rules stipulate.
Desabre will have to trim down on these players later before naming his final 24 man squad to play against Cape Verde in a crucial AFCON qualifier which could see the Cranes seal qualification to the 2019 tournament that will be held in Cameroon.
It is believed that the same set of players will then have to travel to Lagos to play continental giants Nigeria at the Asaba Stadium in Nigeria.
Vipers left back Yayo Lutimba has been included in the initial squad after he has impressed so far replacing KCCA younster Mustafa Kizza. Alos, Vianne Sekajugo who has been impressive for Arua based Onduparaka and is yet to feature for the Cranes has been given the nod ahead of Nelson Senkatuuka.
The Cranes who registered their first wins of Desabre era against Lesotho last month are still on top of Group L with 10 points from four games played and a single point against Cape Verde will see them qualify for the 2019 AFCON final tournament for the second consecutive time.
