Local leaders in Kasangati Division have been urged to put more emphasis on crime prevention measures rather than wait to face the consequences of crimes that may go undetected.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander CP. Moses Kafeero Kabugo delivered the message on Saturday during a meeting that was attended by the KMP Community Liaison Officer, RPC KMP North, DPC Kasangati, area police officers, local leaders and residents.
“ All leaders have an obligation to cooperate and fulfill their duties efficiently in order to safeguard the development and peace in Kampala Metropolitan Area and therefore crimes can be prevented if we work together and increase our efforts.” CP. Kafeero said.
Following numerous security concerns raised, he appealed to the leaders to expressively campaign against drugs and alcohol abuse, which usually fuels crimes such as housebreaking, burglary, murder, rape and gender-based violence in their areas.
In his message, CP. Kafeero lauded residents in the area for their collaboration with Police, and encouraged them to maintain the good spirit, which has enabled Police to clamp down many notorious criminals.
The commander pledged to strengthen community policing by building community-based crime intelligence systems and called upon local leaders to be proactive so as to ensure that crime crime doesnt take place.
The local leaders appreciated the steadily improving police professionalism though sighted a few areas for improvement which the police pledged to rectify.
