The worrying state of Ntungamo Central Market has prompted the municipality to give it a face lift, the town clerk, Festo Tandeka has said. Construction will, however, start in the next three years.
Tandeka, who talked to Watchdog Uganda during a tree planting drive on Friday, said the market scares away some customers because of dilapidated structures.
Government, according to Tandeka, plans to construct permanent markets in Municipalities across the country but it will take three years for Ntungamo Municipality to be considered.
However, he noted that the municipality is planning to temporarily renovate the market as they wait for the central government to construct the permanent one.
Tandeka also commended the leadership of municipality for championing tree planting, which is aimed at keeping Ntungamo green.
Keep Ntungamo municipality clean campaign was launched last year by the bishop south Ankole diocese the Rt Rev Nathan Ahimbisibwe aimed at planting 7000 trees in the municipality.
