Members of Parliament have contributed over shs35 million to the family of fallen Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.
Abiriga was gruesomely murdered together with his brother Saidi Kongo in Kawanda in June 2018 by unknown assailants.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, handed over the contribution to the First Deputy Prime Minister, Gen Moses Ali on Friday. The money was raised from the different parliamentary fora, caucuses and individual Members.
“I hope that the family members have a plan on how to use the money and that you have a joint account with accountable and transparent members. We would like you to know that we lost a friend and wanted to make a contribution to your next phase of life,” Kadaga said.
Gen Moses Ali said that he would hold onto the money until the family opens a joint account with three signatories so that they can run the account to help the widow and orphans.
