At least five villages, including Sume Junior School, in Bukalasa Subcounty, Bududa District have been washed down by landslides on Thursday afternoon.
Eleven people have been confirmed dead and many others still unaccounted for after River Sume burst its banks following a heavy downpour.
Bududa was first hit by dangerous landslides in 2010. Over 100 people died in the disaster.
The landslides struck villages on the slopes of Mount Elgon, including Nameti, Kubewo, and Nankobe, leaving 85 homes destroyed in Nameti. Houses, markets, and a church were destroyed then, while several roads were blocked.
The area again experienced the same catastrophe in 2017 displacing over 200 people.
