Minister for Kampala Beti Kamya has said there is greed in Kampala Capital City Authority which has birthed corruption in authority’s structures.
She was responding to questions as to why there were many buildings without plans emerging in the city.
In response, Kamya put the blame on some KCCA officials who take bribes from property developers who never want to abide the laws of the country.
“The KCCA officers, after taking bribes order developers to build at night since no one monitors construction at night,” Kamya said on Thursday at her office in Kampala, adding that the KCCA monitoring team is understaffed and thus cannot monitor day and night activities.
Last Friday, while touring Kampala City markets, Pius Asaba, one of the directors of Kampala Association of Disabled Traders pinned deputy Mayor, Kampala Central Sam Gombya of conniving with Afua Nalubega and Sophia Nalule to grab their land. Gombya denied the allegations.
On Tuesday, Natete market vendors hijacked President Museveni on his way to Kyotera for Independence Day celebrations, accusing KCCA officials of selling their market land. Invetsigations reveal that a one Caleb Mugisha an official at KCCA also was held responsible for all the Natete land wrangles.
There was no response from KCCA by press time.
