At least 500 households in Nyamunuuka Town Council, Kajara County in Ntungamo District were left in disarray after a strong hail storm devastated the area on Monday .
The rains were accompanied by hail storm and wind breezes that left coffee and banana plantations down and may semi-permanent buildings on the ground.
The affected 10 villages include Kyaruhuuga 1, 2, 3, Nyakafunjo, Nyakabanga, Kakiika all in Nyamunuuka town council and some parts of Rwentsinga in Nyabihoko sub-county in Kajara County.
Kaibanda Sadarah Kahindi, the Nyamunuuka town council chairperson noted that the affected crops coffee, banana plantations, cassava and beans are mostly valuable ones in the area asking the government for help.
Kahindi advised local leaders of the affected villages to write down the names of the affected households so that they can be submitted to the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness so that they can be helped.
Retired Rev Canon James Ndyanabo Rutaraaka of Rwentsinga in Nyabihoko Sub County who was also affected is appealing district leaders for help expressing worry of hunger and poverty in the area.
One of the locals Hajjati Surainah Katushabe said that nothing was left behind to eat and even coffee and beans were destroyed.
The hail storm started at around 4pm.
