A group of six opposition MPs through their lawyers Erias Lukwago and Ladislaus Rwakafuzi have on Tuesday morning placed their appeal before Suprme Court against age limit ruling.
The MPs, led by former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winfred Kiiza are dissatisfied with the majority decision of the Constitutional Court that endorsed the removal of the presidential age limit clause Article 102(b) from the Constitution, paving way for President Yoweri Museveni to contest in the next polls if he so wishes.
“We’ve finally placed before the Supreme Court our comprehensive Record of Appeal in the Age limit petition as required under the law. We hope that the Supreme Court will rise to the occasion and extricate our motherland from the precipice. Aluta continua,” said Lukwago.
In July , the Constitutional Court in a 4-1 majority judgment, upheld the amendment of the Constitution to remove the presidential age limit.
However, the five justices unanimously nullified the extension of the term of Parliament from five years to seven, saying it was unconstitutional because the MPs did not seek or obtain people’s consent.
