Honourable Kim Gai Rout, the South Sudan Representative in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) has blasted the Kenyan Police over the arrests and allegations of extorting bribes from the arrested South Sudanese nationals.
It is alleged, that recently, the Kenyan Police has been arresting South Sudanese in a discriminative manner that is very disturbing while hiding behind the disguise of the Kenyan Immigration Laws.
The procedure and manner in which these arrests are made leaves a lot of unanswered questions, since the Kenyan Government does not inform South Sudan Embassy about the arrests of their nationals.
In a Press Release written by the Mr. Rout, he says, “I would like to remind the Kenyan Government of their obligation to respect Article 7 of the Common Market Protocol that all partner states are to respect”.
He goes ahead to remind the Kenyan authorities that South Sudan is a member of the East African Community (EAC) and that its citizens are to be treated with respect and dignity.
South Sudan is the newest member of the East African Community (EAC) having joined in April 2016.
