The First Deputy Prime Minister Hon Moses Ali has officiated at the opening of the 5th Africa Public Sector Human Resource Managers’ Network (APS-HRMnet) conference at Kampala Serena Hotel. The conference, to run from 27th to 31st August 2018, is organized under the theme, “Human Capital: Sustainable Future for Africa-Agenda 2030 and 2063.”
Hon Moses Ali noted that human capital is a sure way for Africa to develop.
“It all starts with exploring global development goals and appreciating how human resource as a profession can contribute to their attainment,” said Hon Moses Ali.
He added that the conference is not only timely but an international networking tool where the generated ideas can be relied upon when solving Africa’s problems. He further urged participants to put in action whatever will be discussed in their home countries.
The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Commissioner in charge of Rehabilitation Resettlement and Psycho-Social Support and President of Uganda Public Service-Human Resource Managers Network (UPS-HRMnet) Mr. Mike Wambi Mabonga, commended participants for honoring their invitations, saying strengthening partnerships and collaboration between the public sector, civil society and private sector will champion the strategic role of the human resource function in the sustainable development of African countries.
APS-HRMnet aims at ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, combating climate change, protecting oceans and forests by managing human resource capacities in the public service.
Participants at the conference include Chief Executives of organizations, diplomats, development partners, civil society members, human resource managers, policy makers from Burundi, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Somalia, South Sudan, among other representatives.
The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Undersecretary in charge of Finance and Administration Mrs. Edith Buturo and UPDF Chief of Personnel and Administration Brig George Igumba, among others attended the opening ceremony. The UPDF spouses desk is show casing its products at the conference.
