The government of Uganda has embarked on the scheme of giving out loans to Maize grain traders, co-operative unions so that they can buy maize grains from farmers at not less than 500 shilling per kilogram of maize grains.
The Minister of finance planning and economic development Matia Kasaija has told press at media center that in the last 3 seasons there has been a high produce of maize grains in both Uganda and other East African countries and Uganda produces 5 million metric tonnes of maize grains per year.
He has also called upon farmers to harvest dry maize and dry it in clean places so that the quality of the maize is not affected.
