Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander CP. Moses Kafeero on Friday advised residents of Busukuma to sit with various stakeholders and resolve issues peacefully other than resorting to violence.
CP. Moses Kafeero, RDC Wakiso Rtd. Major. David Matovu flanked by other security officers, enlightened the aggrieved residents about interpretation and need to respect the guidelines of the issued court order.
“I call upon all parties contending over the disputed land to engage in a roundtable discussion together with local leaders, Resident District Commissioner and courts of law to resolve the issues,” Kafeero said.
The Busukuma land dispute has raised concerns among locals hence a need to address the land issue and lay strategies for ensuring security of tenure for citizens and other land users in Kasangati collectively.
In a bid to promote an understanding of the land matters and building an environment of harmonious and peaceful coexistence, CP. Kafeero called upon parties in contention to handle land disputes in civil courts of law to avoid escalation of matters to criminal cases like assault, murder and other land related crimes.
Kafeero further warned the residents not to take matters into their own hands but rather report their grievances to the area police adding that whoever takes the law into his hands shall be arrested and prosecuted.
