Police in Kisoro district have one of their own in detention for alleged murder by shooting.
The arrested, Number 65261 police constable Mwanga Paul attached to FFU, allegedly shot and killed Stephen Ntagahorero, 45 and injured two others namely; Desteriyo Munyaneza, 17 and Posiano Maniragaba, 49 all of Gikoro village, Rwingwe parish, Nyakabande subcounty Kisoro district.
It’s alleged that on Wednesday morning at around 10am at Gikoro village, the officer together with two others known as Number 46585 police constable Adii Denis, a canine officer and a detective number 36627 Mwanamwoho Amos all attached to Kisoro police station, had gone to visit a scene of burglary and theft reported by Gaston Ntamakuriro where his bar had been broken into and his goat, a coat and a source pan were stolen.
According to the Kigezi region Police spokesperson Elly maate, when they(police) reached there, they realized that the scene had been tempered with hence the dog could not do much.
It’s by that expression that made the Ntagahorero annoyed and incited others to attack police.
The officer who was armed scared the people in vain, as they continued advancing to harm them and in the process, Ntagahorero was shot dead and other two injured.
Police officers managed to escape unhurt.
Maate says that Police visited the scene, the body of the deceased was taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem and the injured were taken to Mutolere hospital while all the three officers have been detained to help in Inquiries.
This case has been registered at Kisoro police station under file number CRB 657/2918.
