President Yoweri Museveni on Monday hosted a cross section of Muslims for the annual Iftar Dinnar at State House Entebbe.
The hundreds of Muslims were led by His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje.
In his remarks at the dinner, the Mufti thanked the President and first lady Janet Museveni for the annual State House Iftar program and reminded the President of the yet to be fulfilled pledges he made to Muslims in previous engagements. One of them being the renovation of the National Mosque at the UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala which is urgently needed.
In the same way, Mubajje appreciated Museveni for the work well done in the different sectors especially in education, health, poverty alleviation, peace and security in Uganda and Africa at large.
He also requested the president to increase on the national cake for Muslims especially in the public civil services.
He added that in some sectors Muslims are not represented at all in positions such as Permanent secretaries, Judicial positions, Bank of Uganda, Local governments, Authorities and other government departments.
Again mufti thanked the president for directly intervening in the Makerere University Business School leadership issues by reinstating Prof. Balunywa Wasswa and appealed to him to continue using his wise leadership to solve some of these challenges.
On the same platform, he condemned the different insecurity related cases happening in the country like kidnaps, murder, and child sacrifice among many related crimes. and informed the president about the miscommunication on some security issues or information.
“Whenever any criminal act is committed, Muslims are the first suspects hence some of them are being arrested, tortured and detained without trials and others after being tortured are left without compensation,”said Mubajje.
