President Yoweri Museveni has directed First Lady also Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni to re-appoint Professor Waswa Balunywa as Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Principal.
In a letter dated 28 May, 2018, Museveni told Janet to re-appoint Balunywa for another term on the expiry of the current one citing that one of the obstacles that have wasted their time is a disoriented, pro-imperialism academia.
“Professor Balunywa has always been on the liberation side ideology in addition to being an active administrator. His institution has been free of strikes. I have never found him averse to advice the times I have interacted with him. Such a person is always good to work with,” said Museveni.
Yesterday, MUBS Council chaired by Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba had appointed Associate Prof Moses Muhwezi as the institution’s acting principal, replacing Prof Balunywa whose contract expired on Sunday.
“MUBS Council has noted that Prof Balunywa’s contract has expired and resolved to appoint Prof Moses Muhwezi as acting principal with immediate effect, pending the appointment of a substantive principal,” Prof Baryamureeba noted in a letter to the Education ministry Permanent Secretary, Alex Kakooza.
