Elizabeth Rwakitonera one of the six candidates in Rukungiri woman parliamentary by election seat has withdrawn from the race in favor of NRM flag bearer, Winifred Matsiko.
Rwakitonera has withdrawn from the race just seven days to the polling day, leaving other five candidates in the race.
“I have done this for the good of NRM party to consolidate its support in the district” she said.
Rwakitonera says that she did it on advice of the former security minister Henry Tumukunde , on conditions that she set down which Tumukunde promised to fulfill for the good of NRM party in the district.
According to aletter that she addressed to the NRM secretary general, Rwakitonera includes conditions like to refund of 30m shs that she had already spent in campaigns, scholarship for her master’s degree and to support her candidature as woman MP for Rukungiri woman parliamentary seat come 2021.
Rwakitonera who was campaigning as independent candidate with a symbol of a bicycle said that a bicycle takes only one person with her and bus can take many including her bicycle in the boot.
“I urge my supporters to put together all support to NRM flag bearer but my bicycle will not be far when they don’t support me come 2021 I will pull my bicycle from the boot and we go back in the field,” she said.
In separate interview with the press, Elizabeth Rwakitonera said that Tumukunde has fulfilled part of the conditions that she has set for government, and she hopes that they will fulfill others in the due course.
