Children rights convention network for Uganda in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports on Wednesday launched the Global Online Children Rights convention platform in Uganda with the aim of protecting, providing and participating with the children in different aspects that will let them grow well and help them be useful citizens in the future.
Speaking as a chief guest during the launch of the platform at Uganda Manufacturers Association show ground in Lugogo , Rosemary Seninde the state minister for Primary Education who was represented by Robinson Nsumba Lyazi the Director for basic and Secondary Education said the government has always been at the front of protecting children rights from the time it signed the United Nations Children Convention in 1990.
Lyazi Nsumba said the protection of children by the government has been evident in the awake of policies instituted to protect the rights of children like the issuing of policies quashing corporal punishments in schools.
‘’Children were tortured in schools and homes until government through its parastatals issued policies like the way children can be punished without canes especially in schools and homes’’, said Lyazi.
He called upon all Ugandans especially parents to embrace the cause and support children to grow as responsible citizens also save them from the sharp edges including rape.
Meanwhile Mukasa Jose Steven the chairperson of the Children Rights Convention Network for Uganda said they have so far taken 39 people to Sweden to study child rights and and have comeback as change agents striving to stimulate Ugandan children and protect them from moving to streets.
Mukasa added that within 6 months to come they will be registered as an organisation from a coalition.
Dr.Beatrice Byakutaaga the principle of Shimon International School said children rights has been much violated leading to the increasing street children mostly in the city.
