Vipers SC duo Ismail Watenga (knee) and Brian Nkuubi (ankle) have been ruled out of Friday’s Azam Uganda Premier League clash against Maroons FC at Prison Grounds Luzira.
Brian Nkuubi injured his ankle during Vipers’ 3-1 Uganda Cup win over Police a week ago and it was suspected that the midfielder would be back in time for the Venoms league game away to Maroons.
However ,the Venoms team doctor confirmed on Tuesday that Nkuubi won’t be available.
‘He cannot play soon, its unfortunate because he needs more time for his right ankle to recover, ‘ Mathias Kasagga said.
Vipers will certainly have a huge blow without him in their midfield especially considering how stubborn the Luzira based side is.
While Tom Masiko can step in and help drive play, and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye can run around a lot and also create, Nkuubi will still be visibly missed.
The former Kira Young captain is expected to be back in time for the URA clash on March 14, at Namboole stadium.
Goal keeper Ismail Watenga is another long term absentee after sustaining a knee injury last week against Mbarara City.
The shot stopper limped off in the last two minutes and was replaced by James Alitho.
Watenga had started the year well, keeping 3 clean sheets against Soana,Onduparaka and Mbarara City but faces a setback and will be out for over 5 weeks.
Meanwhile Moses Waiswa may undergo a late fitness test on his ankle on Wednesday to determine whether he can play while combative midfielder Tadeo Lwanga is also doubtful.
Dan Birikwalira and Baden Ogama lack match fitness. The pair will not make the match day squad for Miguel Da Costa.
Vipers skipper Nico Wadada’s shoulder injury will also be assessed tomorrow as well Yayo Lutimba.
