Last week, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Mpondwe Enforcement team impounded a car which was trying to smuggle banned cosmetics into the country.
Whilst executing a routine night patrol at about 11pm, the team got information about cosmetics loaded in a Toyota Premio vehicle.
The owner, however, deliberately delayed embarking on the journey as he monitored the team’s movement. He even hired a boda boda motorist to trail the team.
To confuse the trailing boda boda rider, the team drove the URA vehicle back to the station. A few meters after it disappeared from the trailing rider’s sight, one of the URA officers disembarked.
The officer then hired a vehicle and continued monitoring the target route. Assuming that the “coast was clear”, the target vehicle embarked on the journey at about 1:00AM.
About 40 minutes later, the team saw the “Toyota Premio”, pursued and impounded it after a brief chase that ended at Kabirizi.
Cosmetics impounded include 32 cartons x6 dozens x 120mls of carolight contraband cosmetics.
