After the Rebecca Kadaga led Parliament spent Sh64 billion on MPs’ cars, now it emerges another sh2 billion has been spent on facilitating the Speaker, his deputy and a delegation of MPs to attend the Uganda North America Conventions in Boston and Los Angeles cities.
UNAA conventions bring together Ugandans in the Diaspora. The conventions split into two over politics and money involved in organizing the events.
The 28th convention will take place between September 2 and 4 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.
It will feature networking for Ugandans in business, politics, academia, NGOs, among other things.
However, it has emerged that the Speaker and her deputy have closed folded business and took planes to US.
Speaker Kadaga and Jacob Oulanyah will both attend the convention in Boston together with more than 70 members of Parliament.
They are also in company of supporting staff.
Another group of parliamentarians is attending the parallel convention in Los Angeles, California. This one called UNAACauses after it broke off from the original UNAA which is sitting in Boston this year.
The group headed to Los Angeles are led by Leader of the Opposition Winnie Kiiza, and she will attend the convention with a host of opposition politicians.
Oulanyah apparently set off on Tuesday for the convention while her boss Kadaga leaves tonight. They will return a week later on September 6.
Some of the MPs on the Uganda delegation are Kato Lubwama, Mohammed Nsereko, Zaake Francis, Lyandro Komakech, Peter Ogwang, Felix Okot Ogong, Cissy Namujju, Johnson Muyanja Senyonga, Tusiime Michael, Alex Ruhunda and Godfrey Katushabe.
The tax payer in total will part with Sh2 billion to cater for the honorable members of parliament partaking in these very important occasions.
