Last week, the public was awash with the news of Bank of Uganda (BoU) Director in-charge of Supervision Justine Bagyenda leaving the Central Bank months before her retirement age.
BoU Governor Prof Emmanuel Mutebile replaced Bagyenda with Dr Tumubweine Twinemanzi in a reshuffle that is still puzzling the banking fraternity. Twinemanzi has been working as Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Director Industry Affairs and Content (Economic Affairs).
However, we have been tipped by our sources in Central Bank that the deputy governor didn’t take lightly the massive changes. It is said that Dr Kasekende feels Governor Mutebile did not consult adequately on this move.
According to our sources, Kasekende is not happy since most of the people who left the Central Bank were part of his inner circle, which he hoped to depend on in case he was promoted to full governor. Kasekende, with age on his side, hopes to become the next governor. However, the president holds the strings of who becomes Governor. It is said that Dr. Kasekende was a close associate to Bagyenda and her sacking, left a big hole.
It should be noted that the changes took place when the Deputy Governor was out of the country so he couldn’t defend Bagyenda.
Meanwhile, it also alleged that some employees are also not happy with Mutebile after he refused to promote them to top vacant posts of Deputy Directors yet they had sat for interviews.
