On Wednesday, Bank of Uganda Prof. Emmanuel Tumusime Mutebile fired the Director in charge of supervision Justine Bagyenda .
She was replaced with Dr Tumubweine Twinemanzi. Who has been working as Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Director Industry Affairs and Content (Economic Affairs).
The other staff changes in Central Bank’s senior management team included Mary Katarikawe who now serves as Executive Director Operations, Joyce Okello serving as the new Executive Director and Personal Assistant to the Governor, Richard Mayebo as the new Executive Director Risk and Strategic Management, Phillip Wabulya as the Executive director of the Petroleum Investment Fund, Elliot Mwebya as the Executive director in charge of Information Technology and Deborah Kabahweza as the Executive Director Finance.
Now we have learnt that before taking decision for reforms in the Central Bank, Mutebile first consulted President Yoweri Museveni at State House Entebbe who gave him a green light to proceed with the move.
According to Chimpreports, an online news site, Museveni had for long asked Mutebile to rebuild public confidence in the Central Bank by restructuring the human resource and getting rid of some officials.
“The President is happy with what is going on at the Central Bank,” said an official who preferred anonymity.
Justine Bagyenda came to prominence during the chaos that followed Bank of Uganda’s takeover and subsequent sale of the defunct Crane Bank and she was randomly accused by MPs and the general public for failing to do her job.
