Bodaboda riders in Rubaga Division under the umbrella Bodaboda 2010 have appreciated the Inspector General of Police Gen. kale kayihura for defending them when he was tasked to explain the existence of the group in parliament yesterday and the allegations that they torture other bodaboda riders in the city.
Addressing a number of bodaboda riders operating in Rubaga Division at Sunset Pub in Nateete Kampala, Kibirige Joel the chairman of Bodaboda 2010 in Rubaga said they are so saddened by the way some Members of Parliament who are not even representing Kampala make allegations against them listing out Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi and others whom he says have tarnished the bodaboda 2010 image in the country through false allegations.
Kibirige added that they were so happy when they heard the IGP defending them in parliament after allegations by some MPs who hate them and they have now vowed to continue working closely with police in different issues.
He also faulted the ministry of transport for putting up policies and enforcing them before educating the stakeholders in the sector noting that they were surprised when the ministry started enforcing the arrest of bodabodas with one number plate as well as impounding bodabodas with yellow number plates when they are supposed to have white number plates.
Meanwhile the Kampala South Regional Police Commander Hajji Silaje Bakaleke who represented police applauded the relationship between police and the bodaboda 2010 sect which has yielded much and argued the riders to refrain from politics and political campaigns like ‘Tubalemese’ which was launched reCently saying these will spoil their livelihood.
Bakaleke also appealed to bodaboda riders to maintain values as they take on their jobs of transporting people and respect road signs which they have continued to violate.
