The stage is set for Uganda U-20 national team (The Hippos) at the semi finals of the 2017 Mopani Copper COSAFA U-20 Tournament in Zambia.
Uganda Hippos will take on Lesotho at the Nkana Stadium at 5 p.m. This will be the second semi final show down between South Africa and Egypt.
Uganda topped group A that also had defending champions and hosts Zambia, Malawi and Swaziland.
Led by head coach Mathias Lule, Uganda finished with 5 points and a difference of 2 goals, one better of joint leaders Malawi (who also had 5 points).
Lule has the hope that the youngsters will perform to the expected standards.
‘Since we had the last group match on Monday, the players have had enough rest. We are confident that we shall perform well, reach the finals and win the championship’ Lule said.
Uganda takes on Lesotho who finished top in group C.
Team captain Muhammed Shaban will be back in action after serving his one match suspension following a red card in the match against Swaziland.
Shaban is also the current top scorer at the tournament with three goals to his name.
Left back Mustapha Kizza will however miss the match through suspension (two bookings) and right back Fred Okot still faces a late fitness test following an earlier injury during the Swaziland match.
The other semi final at Nkana stadium on Thursday will be between South Africa and Egypt.
Uganda and Egypt are the two guest countries at the COSAFA U-20 tournament.
