In ensuring quality projects delivered on time in Uganda, CoST Core Features has organized a one day refresher course for Engineers to throw more light on how best Uganda can have better roads network.
The workshop took place at Imperial Royale hotel Kampala where over 20 Engineers were given more knowledge concerning the construction sector.
The head of secretariat Africa Freedom of Information Center, Gilbert Sendugwa opened the show where he showed his grief on how Ugandans do not know what and how much is spent by government towards the construction sector. Here he advised all Ugandans to always keep updated to enable them have positive results.
In one of the sessions, last year’s workshop participants shared their experience on the progress of the construction sector
Here, an Engineer from Wakiso Samuel Mwesigwa noted that Wakiso as a district is grieved by the small number of Engineers that exist in the district which ends up compiling loads of work to his desk.
“I also get tired. You find that you always have to multitask since always iam the construction Engineer, at the same time iam the electrical engineer. My dear you crush.” Said Samuel.
He went ahead to note that there are also conditions of breach of contracts since many who are given the certificates are not paid in time.
The trainer Hamish Goldie Scot, an engineer from Engineering outcomes from Scotland advised the engineers to win their clients trust and deliver work on time.
The training contained COST core principles of disclosure assurance and multi stake holders as facilitated by COST Uganda. It equipped participants with skills and knowledge to monitor performance as well as ensuring quality delivery of infrastructure projects.
It should be noted that like many other countries, Uganda’s expenditure on public infrastructure is significant. Every year, Uganda spends approximately 17% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which is USD 1billion.
