Five Red Pepper directors and three editors have on Monday been aligned before Buganda Road court and remanded to Luzira until December 5.
The eight have been charged with offensive communication and defamation, and four other counts.
It is understood that treason charges were dropped.
The journalists were arrested and detained in Nalufenya after police condoned off their plant in Namanve in Mukono district. The newspaper has not been operating since, which has put jobs of hundreds on the line.
Court heard that the managers intended to defame President Museveni and his brother Gen Salim Saleh in the story published last Monday under the headline “M7 plots to overthrow Kagame – Rwanda”.
