President Yoweri Museveni has assured drivers and taxi operators that Government would address their complaints over excessive levies.
The President made the assurances today at the Clock Tower in Kampala an area that is predominantly City taxi inlet, as he traveled to Entebbe for work.
“I do not support daily taxi levies. Present your complaints in a peaceful manner and they will be addressed,” he said.

While urging them to be patient, Mr. Museveni also assured them that he would return at an opportune moment and address their issue of over-taxation.
On the 13th February this year, the Minister of Local Government, Mr. Tom Butime issued a memo referring to the revised policy guidelines on the management of levying of parking fees in Local Government Public Service.
In the memo, all vehicle owners and drivers were directed to pay a monthly parking fee to a local Government or urban Authority’s Bank account, where the vehicle picks and drops passengers routinely.
The memo further stipulated that each Local Government would levy not more than Shs. 80,000 per vehicle per calendar month.

The memo also indicated that the stipulated rate may be reviewed and revised by the Minister in consultation with key stakeholders every financial year.
