Martin Nkokoyo popularly known by his stage name Yoyo has come out to support children suffering from sickle cell.
Yoyo donated sanitary pads and tooth paste to children in an orphanage in Mubende.
“Even if I don’t have a lot, but, a little help is much better than tones of sympathy,” Yoyo said, adding that “When I heard these children need a hand, I had to come out to give what I have.”
Ms Mary Assumpta Nabbosa, the coordinator for the Watchdog Charity Fund located in Ntinda received the goodies from Yoyo on behalf of Mercy Home International, an organization for under privileged children but living with serious illness, located in Mubende.
Mercy Home International houses at least 40 children.
“These children live with HIV or sickle cell and others are just needy children who have lost their parents. We are looking for more support from people of good will like Yoyo to give these children a normal life,” Ms Nabbosa said.
Singer Yoyo is championing a “Clean Body for Fresh Mind” hygiene campaign in schools which he does with support from Vision Impex, the makers of Fresh Up toothpaste and Feathers sanitary pads.
On Friday, he performed at Annex Secondary School Bulenga in Wakiso district, one of the 120 schools he has visited to teach the teenagers about hygiene especially menstrual health.
