The Electoral Commission has given given a green light to former presidential candidate Dr. Abed Bwanika to collect signatures to force age limit lifting decision go to referendum.
Through a letter dated 18 October, 2017, the commission Chairperson Justice Byamukama Mugenyi Simon requested Bwanika to pick a copy of Form D which has been designed by the commission to facilitate the referendum under article 255 of the constitution.
Bwanika is supposed to collect at least 1.5 million signatures to force a referendum on amending the constitution.
Recently, religious leaders under their umbrella body, the Inter-Religious Council also urged government to carry out a referundum to decide on the sensitive issue of age limit.
