A high decorated UPDF army officer Maj. Gen Matayo Kyaligonza has joined a bulk of Ugandans attacking Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi over his controversial age limit bill.
Speaking to CBS radio station, Gen Kyaligonza who is a member of NRM’s Central Executive Committee, the top most party decision-making organ, said Magyezi has no ‘magezi’ literally meaning that the legislator has ‘no brains’ since he does things only to be seen.
The army serviceman wondered why Magyezi doesn’t drop the infamous bill since it has been rejected by majority of Ugandans.
“If I was Magyezi, I would have used common sense to see that the issue I’m bringing is unpopular; you can’t sell it to your constituents.” He said.
He likened Magyezi’s private member’s bill to former president Apollo Milton Obote’s 1967 pigeonhole constitution that is said to have been single-handedly drafted by then attorney general, Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa, and forced on parliament.
According to The Observer newspaper Kyaligonza thinks the controversial proposal to remove Article 102(b) that sets the 35 to 75-year presidential age cap, is taking the country down a dangerous road which spells.
Apparently, Kyaligonza is Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi.
