On Wednesday, a team of police detectives raided the offices of Action Aid Uganda and Great Lakes Institute of Strategic Studies (GLISS) in Kampala after receiving intelligence that the two non-governmental organizations had received funding to destabilize the city and some parts of the country following the intended debate in parliament on age limit.

Police spokesperson Asan Kasingye says after the intel, they raided the NGOs offices and used legal means to search for the information on their data bases and currently police is still analyzing the data.

“According to the Non-Governmental Act, 2016, civil society and non-governmental organizations should not be partisan and they must not operate beyond their mandate. They must not be used by anyone who wishes to destabilize the peace and security of Uganda,” says Kasingye.

On the other hand, the police mouth piece has revealed that Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who was brutality arrested from his home by police was planning to lead a demonstration to parliament regarding the age limit debate which was in contravention of the public order management Act and advice of the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura following his press statement on 20 September 2017, on the matter.
