President Yoweri Museveni has fired Energy Ministry Permanent Secretary Stephen Isabalija replacing him with senior geologist Robert Kasande, an in-law to Kaliisa Kabagambe (Isabalija’s predecessor).
Museveni swung the axe after reports reached him that Isabalija was involved in corruption.
He has been in office for less than a year.
Isabalija was the board chairman of Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) before he was in November last year appointed to replace Kabagambe.
However, hardly a month in his new office, Isabalija picked a fight with Keith Muhakaniza, the Secretary to the treasury.
The fight between the two, resulted into a directive calling the Auditor General to investigate Isabalija’s old work place over its usage of billions of shillings in implementing two power dams—the 600MW Karuma and the 185 MW Isimba which has landed the PS in trouble for allegedly taking part in corruption.
