Early this week Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director Godfrey Mutabazi petitioned MTN over the increased data and voice prices leveled against its customers.
In a letter addressed to MTN Chief Executive Officer, Wim Vanhulleputte, Mutabazi directed the telecom company to submit the most up to date schedule of the retail pricing for all regulated services and products available on the MTN Platforms.
“A preliminary assessment of the current pricing of your retail services indicates that there have been charges in your pricing of voice and data offerings. These changes were never communicated to the commission prior to their implementation,” letter partly read.
However, Anthony Katamba, MTN Uganda’s chief legal counsel while speaking to the Daily Monitor said “Although we got the industry regulator’s letter after close of business hours on Tuesday, the correspondence does not deserve a reply because that is not what the law stipulates”
Meanwhile Mutabazi insists that MTN must offer the commission a response whether they like it or not.
The outbursts started off last week after hordes of customers accused MTN of depleting their data bundles so fast and increasing the rates while decreasing the number of MBs.
