Singer Bobi Wine who was earlier today arrested as he was trying to stage his campaign at Kasangati grounds has been released without charges pressed against him.
His arrest caused public outcry and many of his supporters protested his arrest and blocked the road near Kira Police Station where he was detained from.
After his release, the singer said in order not to cause a presidential embarrassment, his team has decided to hold his rally at Gayaza citing that he doesn’t want to be remembered as a violent man.
“One thing you can’t change is change. They arrested me and they have released me. In order not to cause a presidential embarrassment, we have agreed to hold our rally in Gayaza. I don’t want to be a remembered as a violent man. Campaigns have been peaceful. I want my supporters to remain calm,” said Bobi Wine.
Frank Mwesigwa, Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police said they detained Bobi Wine because the ground he chose did not match the electoral guidelines, which require such functions be held far away from a market or hospital.
