A driver of a Ugandan car along Mombasa Road hit an official of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Thursday as he tried to avoid a checkpoint.
In a chilling video that was aired by a local TV station, the Range Rover goes over the spikes at a roadblock and hits the officer to the ground as he tries to stop it.
The driver then sped off but was nabbed at the Nyayo Stadium roundabout after which he was taken to Lang’ata Police Station.
The vehicle had a Ugandan registration number and was carrying two other passengers at the time of the incident.
In a Facebook post put up by the Safety Authority, on Thursday, they stated that the man had been charged at Makadara Law Courts.
” Emmanuel Ebei Oyen , the driver of this vehicle has been charged at Makadara Law Courts with the following offences:
1.Careless driving
2.Driving under the influence of alcohol
3. Driving without Driving License.
“He has pleaded not guilty and been released on cash bail of Ksh 20,000. Case to be mentioned on 27/06/2017,”
They further gave an update on the officer who had been knocked down saying he had sustained injuries and was admitted at a Nairobi Hospital.
“As a result of this incident, our support officer sustained injuries and is currently in hospital.
“This incident highlights the dangerous risks reckless and drunk drivers present to all road users.
“NTSA will not tolerate any acts of violence or hostility towards its Officers working within the Law to promote safety for all.”
