The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has informed the Principal Judge and Chief Registrar of Courts of Judicature that prosecutors will be away from courts on Friday 23rd June, 2017 to enable them attend the organized extra-ordinary general Assembly to determine whether the industrial action should be carried on and also discuss on the favourable form of industrial action to be used through conducting a ballot vote.
Yesterday, prosecutors their umbrella organization, the Uganda Association of Prosecutors (UAP) had requested Courts of Judicature to adjourn all criminal cases involving ODPP prosecutors to later dates after the assembly.
“The Uganda Association of Prosecutors has convened a meeting on Friday 23rd June, 2017. The top management of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution has agreed to engage the staff on that day,” statement reads.
“The purpose of this letter is therefore to request you inform the relevant courts of the intended absence of the prosecutors from courts on that day. The judicial officers are requested to adjourn any matter falling on that day,” Chibita states.
The meeting is set to take place at Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala.
