Five suspects being implicated in the murder of former Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi have dragged police to court accusing it of detaining and torturing them at Nalufenya Police station in Jinja.
The five suspects include; Godfrey Musisi Galabuzi (Ex-spy), Grace Kayiwa Nankya, Friday Benard, Stuart Ainebyona and George William Kimbugwe.
Through their lawyer Ladislas Rwakafuzi accuse police of violating their constitutional rights by torturing them.
One of the suspects Galabuzi stated that he was offered a deal by one of the interrogators in which he would regain his freedom and Shs. 1billion if he testified to the effect that he was approached by Security Minister Lt. Gen. Tumukunde about March 2, 2017 to procure personnel that would assassinate IGP Kale Kayihira and the late Kaweesi.
“Interrogators offered Musisi a deal in which he would regain his freedom and Shs. 1bn if he testified to the effect that he was approached by Lt. Gen. Tumukunde about March 2, 2017 to procure personnel that would assassinate IGP Kale Kayihira and the late Kaweesi, “application partly reads.
However in the application, Galabuzi claims that he declined the offer and he was returned to Nalufenya thus further tortured.
On 8th May, Galabuzi and others were charged with offences related with conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful possession of fire arms and remanded to Luzira.
AIGP Kaweesi was gunned down along with his body guard and driver in March this year by unknown assailants on his way from home in Kulambiro, a city suburb.
Since his murder, over 23 people were arrested and charged for participation in the case by Nakawa magistrate’s court.
