South African President Jacob Zuma has endorsed his ex-wife, the former African Union chair Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma as the next President of the ruling party, African National Congress (ANC).
“She is bold and you can’t fool her. She is someone you can trust‚” said Zuma‚ whose speech was delivered in Zulu, reports Rand Daily.
Zuma was speaking at a church gathering in Bulwer in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday when he endorsed Dlamini Zuma, the ruling party is scheduled to select a new leader in December, according to Africa News. The new ANC leader will likely become South Africa’s next president when elections are held in 2019.
The President also said that her characteristics were why the late president Nelson Mandela had appointed Dlamini-Zuma as health minister when he established his first cabinet after the 1994 elections.
The ANC Women’s League has also publicly endorsed Dlamini-Zuma.
Dlamini-Zuma was home affairs minister five years ago before taking up the top African job in Addis Ababa.
