Today morning police in Kampala arrested six journalists who have been marching in commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day.
It is alleged that police arrested the journalists on a directive from Uganda Journalist Association president Robert Kagolo.
The journalists were picked up for trying to express dismay against the leadership of their association.
The arrested include Ronald Kabuye (Metro Fm), Issa Kigongo (Bilal FM), Jonathan Atusingwize (Pearl Fm), Ronald Bukenya (Innerman fm), Daniel Mukisa and Isa Nakabale (Urban TV).
The protestors were led by Led by Secretary General, Moses Bayola, a group of 25 cabinet members of UJA Executive broke off from the leadership of Kagolo, whom they accuse of embezzling funds meant to run activities of the association.
The group had decided to organize parallel celebrations at Emerald Hotel starting with a march from the Independence Monument near Sheraton hotel (as the rest of UJA held theirs at Imperial Royale Hotel) unfortunately; their plans were halted by police.
However all the arrested ones were shortly released with no charge filed.
