On Monday Uganda held its International Labour Day celebrations in Paliisa District.
A lot of things transpired during the event, one of them being honouring the outstanding people who have contributed towards the development of the country.
143 people were awarded with Rwenzori Star medals, Golden Jubilee medals and Police medals. Unfortunately 37 beneficiaries failed to turn up for the function to pick their honours.
According to the Chairman of the National Awards Committee Gen. Elly Tumwine, that was an insult to his team.
Meanwhile, among the 143 medal recipients included UPDF Land forces commander Major Gen. Peter Elwelu, Salim Uhuru, the owner of a chain of Uhuru restaurants, Solome Nsimire, the director of Link Services Limited and the owner of the International University of East Africa Alwi Hassan among others.
This year’s national theme for the International Labour Day is, “Building the Nation through Good Work Ethics.”
