Buganda Land Board will issue land titles to all tenants on Buganda land for a period of 49 years, the lease announcement has been made on Tuesday by Buganda premier Charles Peter Mayiga.
The announcement comes a couple of weeks after Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi paid a courtesy visit to President Museveni at State House Entebbe. Museveni has previously said he wants government to buy land from landlords to give ownership to bibanja owners.
Mayiga, who was franked by Buganda Land Board’s (BLB) officials said in the coming six months, there will be a mass titling project titled ekyapa mungalo.
The project will be coordinated from BLB’s offices at Masengere, Bulange.
The Buganda premier said Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi wants his subjects to have rights over their pieces of land.
“The king has reduced the lease fees by 20%, the lease will be for 49 years and about 130,000 have registered without declaration of lease purpose,” Mayiga said.
Mayiga added that during this process, they will give priority to those whose plots are already surveyed by the Buganda land board however everyone will be covered.
“Registration is a process but the campaign is for six months however we may extend it if there is a need.” Mayiga added.
