In a land where degrees are celebrated with pomp and parties, Dr. Ssentongo Spire is the king of quiet accomplishments. Known for his sharp wit and four degrees plus a diploma, this decorated academician is more than just a number collector. He’s also an advocate for change and human rights in Uganda, and a lecturer at a local university. But here’s the kicker: Dr. Spire has never thrown a graduation party and doesn’t have a single graduation photo hanging on his wall!
“I’ve got four degrees and a diploma, and my wife is no slouch either with her own four degrees,” he quipped on his X account. “Yet, not a single graduation picture in the house! I’ve never held a graduation party or even a birthday bash. Why? Well, it’s just like that—like a cow that keeps its milk, I keep my celebrations.”
In a twist that sounds like something from a sitcom, Dr. Spire recounted an amusing incident involving a group of function photographers. They snapped a picture of him in an academic procession, mistakenly thinking it was for a festive occasion. “They framed it on a big board for sale!” he exclaimed, shaking his head in disbelief. “I had to rescue it and now it’s safely tucked away in a suitcase, away from all the graduation fanfare.”
So, while the world celebrates their academic milestones with parties and photo ops, Dr. Spire is happily living life like a wise old tortoise—slow and steady, without the fuss. After all, as they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words, but a suitcase can hold a lifetime of memories!”
