In a passionate call to action, Senior Presidential Advisor (SPA) in charge of Poverty Alleviation in Busoga sub-region, Mrs. Florence Mutyabule, has challenged individuals in Busoga to make sacrifices for the education and welfare of children.
This appeal comes as senior four candidates begin to sit for their UNEB final examinations, while primary seven and senior six counterparts prepare, marking the end of the academic calendar year.
“…I wish you success, good luck, and God’s blessings as you sit for your examinations, may your hard work and dedication yield fruitful results…” she prayed.
A teacher by profession who served for decades before diving into the political arena, Mrs. Mutyabule emphasizes that children are the future of every family, society, and nation, underscoring the importance of investing in their well-being and education.
As they say education is the only asset a parent can leave for their children, Mrs Mutyabule stresses the enduring value of education as a legacy that parents can give to their children.
She says unlike material possessions like buildings or estate and vehicles or cash, education remains with an individual throughout life, it provides them with knowledge, skills and critical thinking to navigate the world and make informed choices.
“…once acquired, education cannot be taken away, unlike physical assets that can be lost or confiscated, it transcends generations, it benefits not only the individual but also their future generations, creating a lasting impact…”,Mrs. Mutyabule notes.
Furthermore, Mrs. Mutyabule who is wife to Busoga kingdom Council (Lukiiko) Speaker George Wanume Mutyabule stressed the need for parents to set a good example for their children by living a God-fearing and decent lifestyle.
She cautioned against destructive behaviors such as drunkenness, gender-based domestic violence, child abuse and infidelity, which often lead to separation and divorce, leaving children emotionally and physically devastated.
“…Children learn from what they see, so as parents, we must model the values of integrity, respect, and compassion to ensure our children grow into responsible and productive citizens…”Mrs. Florence Mutyabule emphasized.
She proudly pointed out that Busoga has a long history of producing high-achieving students who have gone on to hold key positions nationally and internationally.
Notable examples of Busoga’s accomplished individuals include Dr Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe, the first female Vice President in Africa, Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga who served as Deputy Speaker and Speaker for 20 years.
The workaholic Kadaga is now the First Deputy Prime Minister/Minister in charge of East African Community Affairs as well as Kamuli district Woman MP.
By emphasizing the importance of education, values, and responsible parenting, Mutyabule aims to inspire a brighter future for Busoga’s youth.
Busoga’s rich cultural heritage and history of excellence provide a strong foundation for its children to thrive.
The Busoga kingdom anthem, which begins with a soothing melody “Tuli bankabi inhyo, ye nga twesimye”is a powerful expression of the Basoga people’s connection to God, their land, culture and community. It’s always sung during all school assemblies and public functions.
As a kingdom led by a decent and well-educated King (Kyabazinga) His Royal Highness William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Nadiope Gabula IV who values education, Busoga has a unique identity shaped by its 11 principalities (chiefdoms) and the Basoga.
Experts argue that with a focus on education and long-held values and norms, the region can continue to produce accomplished individuals who make meaningful contributions to society.
Busoga also boasts of some of the best primary and secondary schools like Mwiri Primary School, Jinja Central Academy, Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA), Good Heart SS, Victoria Nile School, Buckley High School, Iganga Boys School, St Patrick Kigulu Girls, Kamuli Girls, Busoga College Mwiri, Wanyange Girls SS, Jinja College, Kiira College Butiki, Iganga Senior Secondary school and other privately run schools.
