The Judicial Service Commission has declared the Deputy Chief Justice post vacant, marking a start to the process of finding Justice Steven Kavuma’s replacement.
Justice Kavuma who turns the mandatory retirement age of 70 in September, recently stunned the nation when he reportedly signed an affidavit that sought to deduct four years from his actual age in order to remain eligible for the position.
He has often been accused of being a cadre judge for the ruling NRM party.
The deputy CJ position is one of 24 judicial positions declared vacant by JSC.
The commission has set 1 May, 2017 as the deadline for the submission of credentials for interested candidates.
