Members of Parliament from Buganda region have met popular singer Bobi Wine who has had back and forth exchanges with Mengo officials over the demolition of part of his Busabala beach.
Masaka Municipality’s Matthias Mpuuga, Mukono Municipality’s Betty Nambooze, Busiro East’s Medard Sseggona met Bobi Wine on Thursday evening at Lavanda hotel in Lugala in Kampala. The three MPs are said to be close to Kabaka with two of them former ministers in Buganda Kingdom while Nambooze headed a land committee in Buganda.
Also present was musician Ronald Mayinja, who has of recent showed interest in joining politics.
Our sources say Bobi and MPs have agreed that Buganda can’t fail to find within itself a solution to the matter under contention.
Watchdog understands that Nambooze chaired the meeting which took about three hours in which Bobi poured out his heart and exposed the dirty dealings of officials in Kabaka’s land office.
When we reached out to Nambooze, she admitted to meeting Bobi together with her fellow legislators.
She said, “We have counselled Bobi Wine about the Kabaka asiimye phrase…that when the Kabaka pleases to appoint any person into office his belief is that such person has and will exercise good judgement…the Kabaka therefore doesn’t administer the Kingdom directly by giving day to day directive even when many things are done under that phrase…Kabaka asiimye. There is a possibility therefore for his servants for different reasons to make poor judgement.
“We have observed that its would be so embarrassing for us to fail to solve a disagreement arising over just a half an acre piece of land. This came after realising that the enemies of the Kingdom had hijacked this matter and were using different channels to draw the wedge deeper and also mobilising to launch a bigger attack on our Kabaka and the Kingdom. We have also discovered that Bobi’s enemies were presenting themselves as his defender with a hidden agenda to isolate him from the Kingdom and eventually destroy him. We shall therefore pursue this matter in a manner that doesn’t compromise our culture to achieve justice either way,” said Nambooze who was returning from Kabaka’s 62nd birthday party.
The meeting with MPs is likely to calm Bobi Wine who pledges his unconditional support for Kabaka and Buganda but had stood his ground and was seeking audience with the Kabaka.
A quarter of an acre of Bobi’s beach, was dug away by caterpillars at the orders of Mengo’s Enkuluze office. Bobi says he paid in full for all the property but he was being shortchanged.
