A growing wave of anxiety has swept across the internet following the release of a shocking video that surfaced reportedly from Bunga, a suburb of Kampala. The footage shows a resident filling a white bucket with water that appears dangerously contaminated, described by the filmer as “black” and unfit for drinking or bathing. This alarming revelation has sparked outrage and deep concern among citizens, who fear for their health and well-being.
Residents have taken to social media to express their frustrations with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC). Many have reported severe water shortages, going weeks without reliable access to clean water, while others, particularly in Mbarara City, have noted that their supply is often discolored, appearing brown and unappetizing.
“It’s unacceptable that we are expected to drink and bathe in water that looks like this,” one frustrated resident commented. “This is sewage, not water. The National Water is putting our lives at risk.” Many citizens are linking the poor quality of the water supply to a rise in waterborne diseases, with alarming reports suggesting a spike in cases of diarrhea and other illnesses attributed to contaminated water sources.
Moreover, complaints about exorbitant water bills have added fuel to the fire, with users demanding accountability from NWSC for what they see as an unjustified charging system amid declining service quality. “We are paying high prices for water that is making us sick. How can this be right?” another user questioned.
With public health at stake, the need for a swift response to ensure safe, clean drinking water is more urgent than ever. As netizens continue to voice their concerns, the government faces mounting pressure to investigate the sources of contamination and rectify the ongoing crisis.
