Police in Kanungu district are investigating circumstances surrounding the murder by assault of 43-year-old Tushabomwe Javira, a resident of Kishunju cell, Nyakatunguru Ward, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu district.
The deceased was allegedly assaulted by his woman friend, Tumuheirwe Fomia, 43, with whom he shared an address. According to eyewitnesses, the couple had a fight on the night of August 15, 2024, resulting in the suspect critically injuring the victim on the head.
The victim failed to report the incident to the authorities and instead stayed indoors until August 18, 2024, when the chairman of LC 1, Kishunju cell, found him in a critical condition and rushed him to the police station.
Before being taken to Kihihi Health Centre for treatment, the victim implicated his woman friend as the perpetrator of the assault. However, he couldn’t provide further details due to his condition.
Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries on August 21, 2024, at around 10:00 am, while being referred to Kambuga Hospital.
The police have arrested the suspect and are holding her at Kihihi Police Station. Inquiries are ongoing, and a postmortem examination has been conducted.
ASP Elly Maate, PRO Kigezi, confirmed the incident and urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
