ACCA Uganda and Deloitte Uganda have announced the renewal of their strategic partnership, a collaborative effort aimed at advancing capacity building and recognizing excellence among Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) in Uganda.
This renewed collaboration will span the next three years, reinforcing the commitment of both organizations to foster professional development and acknowledge outstanding financial leadership in the country.
The strategic partnership between ACCA Uganda and Deloitte Uganda is designed to support the professional growth and recognition of CFOs through various initiatives. A cornerstone of this collaboration is the annual CFO Awards, a prestigious event aimed at celebrating exceptional financial leadership.
This year, the awards ceremony is scheduled for October 17, 2024, under the theme “Pushing Boundaries, Exploring the Growth Mindset.” Nominations for the awards opened on July 29 and will close on September 6, 2024.
Charlotte Kukunda, Country Manager of ACCA Uganda, emphasized the importance of the renewed partnership in exploring new opportunities for mutual benefit.
She stated, “This extension is to explore opportunities for collaboration for our mutual benefit. In addition to activities we have been doing under the CFO agenda in Uganda, like the annual awards, surveys, quarterly CFO forums—a platform that facilitates discussion of topical issues and nurturing of the next generation of finance leaders; CFOs and CEOs—we are adding the CFO Lab which will focus on three important resources that CFOs should manage during times of significant change.”
The CFO Lab is a significant addition to the partnership’s offerings. It will serve as a specialized training ground for CFOs, focusing on three critical areas: personal and organizational time management, talent management within the finance organization, and critical stakeholder management.
These areas are crucial for CFOs who are navigating transitions and significant changes within their organizations. Kukunda explained, “The lab seeks to engage participants in these core focus areas to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities that come with times of significant change.”
The lab aims to provide CFOs with effective time management strategies to enhance productivity and efficiency in their roles, equip them with skills to manage and develop talent within their teams, and offer insights and techniques for managing relationships with key stakeholders.
Joseph Ssekabira, FCCA, Associate Director, Risk Advisory at Deloitte Uganda, reaffirmed Deloitte’s commitment to the partnership. He said, “Our goal is to continue promoting the finance profession, working closely with ACCA Uganda to recognize finance leaders and to steer their roles with distinction.
We are committed to the MoU that we have signed today, and we look forward to working with ACCA, but also importantly working with the different CFOs and accountants across the spectrum in this partnership to propel the CFO agenda to greater heights in Uganda.”
Ssekabira emphasized that the collaboration is not just about recognizing current leaders but also about shaping the future of financial leadership in Uganda. Deloitte Uganda is dedicated to providing resources, expertise, and support to ensure the success of this partnership.
Peter Ssenyange, FCCA, CFO of PostBank Uganda and recipient of the Leadership Award as the 1st Runner Up in the 7th edition of the CFO Awards 2023, encouraged fellow CFOs and Heads of Finance to participate in this year’s awards.
“I urge CFOs and Heads of Finance to nominate themselves for this year’s awards to gain valuable insights, expand their professional networks, and receive recognition for their hard work,” Ssenyange said.
He highlighted the immense learning and networking opportunities that come with participating in the awards, as well as the recognition that acknowledges the efforts and achievements of finance professionals.
The renewed partnership between ACCA Uganda and Deloitte Uganda represents a significant step towards enhancing the finance profession in Uganda. Through initiatives like the CFO Awards and the CFO Lab, both organizations aim to support CFOs in their professional journeys, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to excel in their roles and drive financial leadership within their organizations.
This collaboration also seeks to address the evolving challenges faced by CFOs, particularly in a rapidly changing business environment. By providing platforms for discussion, training, and recognition, ACCA Uganda and Deloitte Uganda are committed to fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement among finance professionals.
